RIHANNA IS MY WORKOUT BUDDY

It's 6pm, 30 minutes into my weekly Bosu class. At this point, my legs feel like Jell-O and I'm checking the clock every 5 seconds willing it to go faster. I put my head down and press on...and suddenly feel an extra jolt of energy. My arms pump harder, I add a little hop to my step and...what's this? I'm even singing along to the song coming through the sound system. The source of my new found energy? "Umbrella" by Rihanna.

Yup, I love Rihanna and her umbrella. I know it was totally overplayed back in 2007, and I, too, have fallen victim to the so-annoying-but-ever-so-catchy "ella ella" that you just can't get out of your head. (Sorry, I'm sure this is happening to you right now). But I love the song, and it honestly gives me an extra "kick" during my workouts. I've used this to my advantage by strategically placing it at a crucial point in my "workout" song playlist. When I'm tired from running (or gliding) up the "hills" on my treadmill (or elliptical), a little "ella ella" takes me a long way.

There are a couple of other songs that push me along through my workout routine. I thought I'd share with you my favorite workout playlist. It's about 50 minutes long, which is perfect for a 45 minute workout and a 5 minute cool down. The songs are placed in this exact order to get me through a good workout with a couple of small "hills" and 2 grueling bigger ones.

I will admit that I am a bit embarrassed by some of my song choices, as this playlist includes songs by the Simpson sisters, Miss Duff and the lovely Britney Spears. But I will push my dignity aside for the sake of the hive. No shame!

"L.O.V.E." by Ashlee Simpson
"Crazy" by Britney Spears
"Get Right" by Jennifer Lopez
"Sexyback" by Justin Timberlake
"With Love" by Hilary Duff
"Shut Up and Drive" by Rihanna
"Umbrella" by Rihanna
"Summer Love" by Justin Timberlake
"A Public Affair" by Jessica Simpson
"Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas
"Stronger" by Kanye West
"Mo Money, Mo Problems" by Notorious BIG, Mase and P.Diddy
"You Gotta Be" by Des'ree

Which songs on your workout playlist give you an extra boost of energy?
