Now before we start getting angry at the Mr's in our lives (I can see this turning into an entirely different kind of post), it's not entirely Mr. Latte's fault. Both Mr. Latte and the girls' family have been super busy so they haven't been able to meet up for him to pop the big question to the little girls. He has promised me that this is THE weekend, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Anyway, I wanted to do something equally as fun for our special little guys. These two boys are brothers and they hold a very special place in my heart...I've watched them grow from tiny newborn babies into big boys that love to run around, crack jokes and make people laugh. The older one "N" is super smart, has a stellar memory and is friends with THE John Malkovich. (No joke). The younger one "J" loves to play sports, helps clean up around the house and is going to be the biggest heart breaker one day.
What could I do for these Star Wars, basketball and Lego-lovin' kids? Well, since Star Wars scares me, basketball bores me, and "N" can out build me with his eyes closed (he's really THAT good), I decided to go the boooring route and make them something wedding related. The girls got bouquets to practice with, so the boys will get pillows! The girls got personalized initial letters on their bouquets, so the boys will get personalized initial letters on their pillows! I love consistency.
I gathered up the following materials and got to work:
8 sheets of felt
4 skeins of embroidery floss in coordinating colors
1 needle
1 bag of batting
I cut out the first initial of the boys' names and make a backing for them by stitching them onto a coordinating color of felt.

I then stitched the backed letter onto the top side of the pillow. I didn't want the letter to sit completely flat on the pillow, so I stitched from the back and weaved my needle in and out through the space between the letter and the backing. This ensured that the needle never came through the front side.
(Stitching from the back, in between the yellow letter and the green backing)
(See? No stitch marks came through!)
Finally, I used a blanket stitch in a coordinating floss color to create the pillow. When the pillow was 3/4 of the way stitched, I stuffed in some batting before closing it up.

The final product...so simple and quick to make!

And here are our special little guys!
They were so cute when I delivered them today. I gave them the pillows and they immediately started "right-together, left-together" walking around the room, humming the wedding march! So the pillows were put to good use right away and I hope they can continue to use them to practice with.
Not like the boys need practice. "N" is a ring boy PRO. He's been in more weddings in the past 4 years of his life than I can count on two hands. "J" is not as experienced, but he'll be fine...his mom is one of my BMs and his dad is our officiant so we'll just instruct him to run up the aisle to mommy and daddy!
Did you do anything special when you asked your special little guys and girls to be in your wedding party?
